The Open Door, Inc. (TOD) is a non-profit organization with the mission, building from a harm reduction model to provide supportive housing and related services to improve the health of the forgotten population of high-risk, chronically homeless people living with HIV.
Position: Representative Payee
Position Summary:
Representative Payee is a full-time position with TOD, primarily responsible for providing rep payee and non-medical case management, with a focus on housing stability through financial management and support services. The Representative Payee will work closely with The Open Door, Inc. team, community partners, as well as the local Social Security Administration to provide direct services and advocacy on behalf of participants.
Responsibilities:
- Engage all payee program participants, actively listen to their concerns, and build a trusting relationship with each.
- Conduct intakes, assessments, and regular check-ins or home visits for representative payee program participants. Ensure compliance with funding regulations and required documentation.
- Complete service coordination plan by actively assisting participants with setting and achieving their personal goals related to non-medical case management and/or TOD priorities.
- Maintain records of participants’ finances and monthly budgets; discuss changes with participants and prepare for bill pay each month.
- Collect, curate, and expand information and relationships with community resources, available services, and benefits. Identify partners who also serve our population or provide supportive resources that strengthen our programming. Refer and coordinate services and community resources for participants.
- Maintain communication with and report changes to the Social Security Administration for program and participant support such as changes in benefits; overpayments; respond to notices; reporting of wages, change of address. Complete disability update reports.
- Compile participant documentation to complete Ryan White certifications.
- Maintain documentation on participants and create periodic reports for management on services and needs. Evaluate, track, and report on progress. Assist in tracking, evaluating, and reporting program outcomes and errors.
- Identify partners for collaboration who also serve our population or provide resources that strengthen programming.
- Collaborate with participants to identify services and benefits, complete the paperwork, and connect them to resources.
- Adhere to federal, state, local, and The Open Door, Inc.’s administrative and recordkeeping guidelines to support accurate case notes and documentation of activities.
- Maintain confidentiality of participants, staff, and internal records and affairs of The Open Door, Inc.
- Participate in team meetings and organization events as required.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support the mission of the Open door, Inc.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and/or five years’ experience working with people in a helping profession.
- Must be able to travel with own vehicle throughout the City of Pittsburgh and surrounding counties.
- Knowledge of and adherence to harm reduction and housing first practices.
- Experience in direct service provision to vulnerable populations and those affected by HIV, utilizing a client-centered and nonjudgmental approach.
- Significant work and/or life experience related to substance use disorder, mental health, HIV/AIDS, LGBTQIA+ competency.
- Strong interpersonal and team-building skills and excellent oral and written communication.
- Ability and willingness to work independently and be hands-on to creatively solve problems as they arise.
- Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Google Suite, databases, and the use of the internet for research is required.
